Desserted has proved to be an unexpected, yet pleasant, option for sending gifts to your loved ones. The founder of Desserted, Jimmy LaPrelle, originally aimed at making ‘gifts that don’t suck' but he realized that he needed to work on the packaging that shouldn’t suck either. He, however, didn’t have any idea about packaging. He wanted the packaging to be premium, so he got help in this department. According to LaPrelle, as an entrepreneur, you need to do what you are good at and find help when you need the most.
He wanted to differentiate his brand from the rest by designing its packaging that could offer a premium experience.
The road to being an established business owner
LaPrelle had to start from scratch, so he had to make a lot of effort to become an established business owner in the industry. He had an interest in the gift industry, and he pursued his love for desserts to establish his business. With the first business anniversary coming up, they have nine mailer boxes and delicious desserts that keep attracting new and old customers. Working with the brand and desserts was not quite difficult for Jimmy, but developing the boxing model was a tough challenge.
He had to think about the unboxing experience, which is always a tough thing to develop for any brand. Luckily, he had the help of some highly qualified package designers who assisted him in the development of a fully premium packaging design that included an incredible unboxing experience.
Jimmy was a package novice at the start of the business. With professional help, he didn’t only manage to have great brand packaging, but he also managed to learn the basics of packaging. It allowed him to learn enough to gain the primary skill required to figure out the need to bring any packaging design change that could influence the branding of his business positively. He was able to know about the box sizes to meet different consumer requirements.
A new packaging concept
The aim of Desserted is not only to provide several dessert options to the customers with varying demands but also to transform their experience into something that seems and sounds magical. So, it is much more than just desserts.
Jimmy also had plans to give back to the community, so he founded Food For Thought. The purpose of this initiative was to provide kids from low-income areas with foods. They add a specific percentage of the price of every sold package into the fund that they use to feed needy people.
With the help of custom packaging boxes, Desserted connected with their consumers in the best way possible. The colors and overall design of their boxes allow their consumers to use those product packages as their emotional representations. At first glance, Desserted seems to have cracked the code of branding, but it is just a beginning. Jimmy plans on further enhancements of his brand, especially with the packaging. Right now, his main focus is to create a design for the inside of the box.
